Early Bird to Night Owl in 9 Days!
Ya’ll Momming is hard! Momming During a Pandemic is unyielding. We are nearing the three month mark of quarantine and have literally not left the house since March 6th! Cabin Fever? That’s an understatement We aren’t on a rigid schedule, or even a schedule per-say, nothing like it is when life is normal. My boys love it, sure they miss their friends and RECESS! Don’t forget recess!! But they are well rested, have full tummies, no school anxiety, so emotionally the boys are in a good space. I find myself struggling a bit lately. A bit more tired and less enthusiastic. Blah Digital learning! Many days
I know, you know!
I am currently trying to create a successful blog, and a ground level business all while mumming during a quarantine. My boys are with me 24/7 and there isn’t relief from extended family, no trips over to grandmas, no spending the night with auntie. I know you know where I am at because many of you are right here with me!
Today, I wasn’t the mom I normally am. Sure we all struggle, we will all fail but today I just was not myself. I was a total Mom Brat, I didn’t want to do “their” distance learning. This Mom Brat even complained about how much work was being given…to the kid! Regrettably, I didn’t go outside and play with them; I was short, and I yelled…a lot!
DR. Pepper also known as Southern Coffee
Interestingly enough my day started well. We were all dressed and headed out for a walk by nine am. Self development via podcasts, a Dr. Pepper in hand (also known as southern coffee), homemade breakfast, play time and all of a sudden I just crashed. It wasn’t even noon and I was having to fight through wanting to close out of google classroom. Moody, distant and even avoidant…thats me!
What is wrong with me? Am I sick? Tired? Anxious? Maybe I needed some fresh air, but just them playing was annoying me. They were too loud, they were arguing, baseballs and tennis balls were flying into the neighbors yards. UGH, I had to go inside. I just couldn’t do it for a second longer. They noticed, they noticed I was crumbing before them.
Heart Break & Blessings
So, what do we all do when life is hard? Hello Instagram, old friend! Help pull me out of this horrible moment. Subsequently, scrolling and SCROLLING and boom, mood shift; I watched as a mom shared her sons Honor Walk. (Heart Break, and Blessings) Mom’s are loosing their babies, right now! In this moment as I am typing this another mom is literally breaking from the inside out at the loss of a child. On the atrocious days I still need to find a way to show up, Im not asking for perfection from myself. Moms have it hard enough. But I have to prioritize my needs so I can be there for them.
How do I make sure that day in and day out I am ready for the challenges? Above all, REST! I will need to be well rested. For instance if this means I need to take a nap, dammit I’m going to! If it means getting in bed early, I will make it my priority.
Can a Night Owl actually be an Early Bird?
If you are in the 4am club and it works for you, Bravo! But 6:30am is all you will get out of me! Last year I made a promise to myself to find more time in my day to prioritize ME first thing in the morning. As a result, I began to brainstorm how to adjust my sleep schedule. I compiled everything I could imagine would help me turn a new leaf and then I named it, ! I used to stay up until 1-2 am doing laundry, working out, scrolling and binge watching Netflix! My guide changed that…as long as I was using it!
Well…hello, if I’m being honest I’m typing this at midnight! Now though, no more Netflix binging it’s been replaced with working on content creation and writing. Unfortunately, putting myself in bed isn’t the problem, my mind swirls, my brain won’t shut off, never slowing down and it’s caught up to me.
Therefore, I am hitting the reset button tomorrow. I will RE-start my Night Owl to Early Bird Guide because when I am being efficient, and getting “My Time” to do “My Stuff” I can do the “Mom Stuff” without the frustration.
I deserve that.
It begins today!
